“Everybody wants to be a bodybuilder- ai’nt nobody wanna lift the heavy ass weight”!! Ronny Coleman
Responsibility is a phenomenon of the base chakra. Ever heard the expression “Stand on your own two feet”? Well that simply means take responsibility for yourself. We are all master creators of our own reality. Through our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and actions we create every nuance of our life experience.
We are the Writer, Director, Starring Character and Editor in the Movie of our own lives. We cast all of the other characters in our Movie. We have written the script! And if we don’t like the script as Directors we can change it at any moment. Nobody can do anything to you! Nobody can make you feel, think or do anything. You are responsible for all of it.
Responsibility for many feels like a heavy, loaded term. In reality it is the path to freedom. Responsibility is the “ability to respond”. No matter what happens deep down I know I have the power to respond to all situations. My whole Being has been designed to cope with every possible scenario that comes my way. I may need to remind myself of this very often so that I can stand in my power at all times.
One of the mantras that I use when I am doing heavy squats is “I AM the Power and the Might!” We would do well to remind ourselves of this as often as is required.
When you do not realise that you are the Creator and Director of your whole life experience you become a victim of circumstance. Another way of phrasing this is that you abdicate responsibility. Life just happens to you. You have “Bad luck”. Other people “make you do stuff or feel stuff”.
Ever seen toddlers in a fight over something? One little kid hits another and the response is he/she made me do it! Adults still do this all the time! “You made me angry!”, “I couldn’t help myself” and” I had no choice”. All of these phrases are the battle cry of one who has no intention of taking responsibility.
One of the areas that this plays out very obviously is in the creation of our own bodies. If we are not willing to take responsibility for the type and quality of the food we put into our mouths, the exercise we do or don’t do our emotional wellness and self-care our bodies will show up as the living testament to this lack of responsibility.
People who are not willing to take responsibility think they can pay somebody else to take responsibility for them. I have witnessed this phenomenon very often in my role as a personal trainer. Somebody rocks up and pays you for a couple of training sessions a week in order to “whip them into shape” all the while the person in question does not follow their nutritional plan, binges at the weekend, over consumes alcohol, refuses to do the inner work required , and ignores any and all advice given. This person has no intention to change.
Transformation of the Body and Being can be a very Painful, Arduous and Long process. There is nothing comfortable about it. If you are not willing to go into the discomfort of passing on the biscuits at break time or feeling all of your supressed anger come to the surface on a liver cleanse you are not willing to be responsible. If you are not willing to be responsible you will play the role of victim and blame others or circumstances for your lack of success.
Nobody is responsible for your Body, your Life or your Success as a Human Being. You are doing it all. You are creating it all. The road to freedom starts with personal responsibility. You need to get back on this road daily, sometimes hourly and sometimes moment to moment. Remember you can’t pay anybody to live your life for you. Now stand on your own two feet and Be the Power and the Might that you came here to BE!
